Alexander MacLeod’s debut short story collection, Light Lifting, won the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award, was a finalist for the 2010 Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Prize, Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and the Commonwealth First Book Award (Canada and the Caribbean). It was also named a “Book of the Year” by the American Library Association, the Irish Times, Globe and Mail, Quill and Quire magazine and Amazon.ca. Alex lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and teaches in the English Department at St. Mary’s University in Halifax. He is the Coordinator of the school’s Atlantic Canada Studies Program. He is serving as a judge for the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize.
